Service Upgrades 2026: Databases, Search, and Messaging

As part of our ongoing commitment to enhancing and improving the reliability, security, and performance of the Divio Platform, we will be upgrading several core services in 2026. Specifically, we are planning upgrades on Database Engines, Search Infrastructure and Messaging.
All changes are designed to improve performance, security, long-term compatibility, and platform stability. Newer service versions also introduce additional capabilities that will be available to your applications over time.
Below you’ll find what’s changing, when it happens, and whether you need to do anything.
Database Upgrade
We’re upgrading the engines used by managed databases.
These upgrades bring measurable performance improvements and align the platform with modern framework requirements. For example, recent Django releases have dropped support for MySQL 8.0 and PostgreSQL 14, making MySQL 8.4+ and PostgreSQL 15+ the supported baseline. The newest Django version will support PostgreSQL 15+.
Database migrations are fully automated and will be performed on each application separately.
Timeline
We’ll be upgrading the MySQL engine used by managed databases from MySQL 8.0 to MySQL 8.4, with migrations scheduled between late May and mid-June 2026.
We’ll upgrade from PostgreSQL 15 to PostgreSQL 18 during the May–June 2026 database migration window.
What this means
Database upgrades follow the process below:
The new database engine will be available in your region
Maintenance is planned for each application. You will be notified at least 2 weeks in advance, and also before, during, and after the migration takes place. By default, the maintenance will update your database and redeploy all your environments
If you wish to have more control over the migration, you can manually start the maintenance before its due date. Documentation will also be available if you wish to perform the migration manually.
We strongly recommend testing your application with the newer database version locally, before the migration window, to ensure you are ready for the change.
Search Revamp (Action Required)
We are migrating our search service from Elasticsearch to OpenSearch. This change will provide superior performance, better security defaults, and a more transparent open-source roadmap for all our managed clusters.
Furthermore, OpenSearch will be available as a regular managed service, meaning you will have full control over it within the Services Tab of your application. This change makes everything more transparent and removes the need to contact support or experience delays in search provisioning/unprovisioning.
OpenSearch is largely API-compatible with Elasticsearch, but depending on your setup, you may need to update client libraries or configuration to ensure compatibility with the newer service version. Our team is here to guide you through the process if needed.
Timeline
A new search managed service based on OpenSearch will be available starting in September. ElasticSearch will be decommissioned at the end of September.
Customers currently using ElasticSearch will be contacted by our Excellence Team in the upcoming months to ensure a smooth migration.
What this means
Starting in September, you will be able to add a new search managed service (backed by OpenSearch) in your application and potentially migrate all persistent data to it.
Once the transition is complete, ensure your application only connects to the new managed service, so you won’t get any issues when Divio decommissions and removes the old clusters.
All impacted customers will receive more information on the process to follow, and our Excellence Team will be available for any questions or issues you may have.
Messaging Upgrade
RabbitMQ will be upgraded from 3.X to 4.X in each region in October 2026 as part of routine platform maintenance.
This change happens entirely in the background and requires no customer action. Messaging endpoints, queues, and credentials remain unchanged. Applications using standard AMQP clients should continue operating normally.
However, if you rely on specific RabbitMQ features or older client libraries, we highly recommend that you validate the compatibility of your applications ahead of the upgrade.
Important Time
To summarize:
May-June: MySQL/PostgreSQL upgrades
September: OpenSearch upgrade
October: RabbitMQ upgrade
How to Stay Informed
The most reliable place to track upgrade timing, maintenance windows, and service notices is our Status Page. If you haven’t done so, we strongly recommend subscribing so you receive advance notification relevant to your services.
Our team is always available if you need any technical assistance or additional information on the upcoming upgrades. We would be happy to help and guide you.
Questions or Migration Planning
If you’d like to validate compatibility early or coordinate timing with your release cycle, contact support, reach out to your account manager, or message us in the Control Panel.
We’re upgrading these services to keep the platform fast, supported, and future-ready while minimizing disruption to your applications.
